3-D Version of Beatles' 'Yellow Submarine' To Shoot In April 2011, Says Star Cary Elwes

Disney announced in March that it plans to shut down Robert Zemeckis' digital animation studio. Apparently "A Christmas Carol" — and its lackluster domestic box office showing — will be one of the studio's swan songs (get excited for "Mars Needs Moms," people!). Yet the closure, so it seems, will have no bearing on the [...]

Lord of the Rings symphony--By Kristen Shalbinkski

"The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" returned to the silver screen at Radio City Music Hall this October 8 and 9 for a special two-night-only engagement. The best part? The screenings featured a live symphony orchestra playing the entire score along with the movie. Ludwig Wicki conducted the orchestra, which included over 300 musicians from the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra, the Brooklyn Youth Choir and Dessoff Symphonic Choir.

Now after seeing the film with live musical accompaniment, I have to say this is what a 3-D movie should be like. Forget about cool special effects jumping out at you. Having the orchestra perched directly beneath the screen and playing the score to perfection added another layer of emotion to the film to accompany the already eye-popping 2-D visuals. The "Two Towers" soundtrack is amazing alone, but hearing it performed live in person gives you a greater appreciation for both the music and the movie.

At certain points during the film, I found that I was completely focused on the orchestra, and at other times I forgot that they were even there because the music was so on point. I even got the chills during the film, especially feeling the music's effect during the scenes in Rohan, Helm's Deep and Forth Eorlingas when Gandalf, Éomer and the Rohirim come charging down on the Orcs at Helm's Deep. Everyone in the audience was clapping and cheering during these moments and throughout the entire film.

After the end credits concluded, Ludwig Wicki and the rest of the orchestra received a standing ovation. And the crowd rose to its feet once again when the man himself, Howard Shore -- who composed the music for all three films -- came out on stage to thunderous applause.

For any fan of the "Lord of the Rings" or of great orchestral music... or both, this was a night that will not be soon forgotten. So plan ahead and remember to get tickets to "Return of the King," which will hit Radio City with a live symphony orchestra next year.

Will you be lining up to see "Return of the King" with a live symphony orchestra next year?

Rose McGowan And Rachel Nichols Go Barbaric In New 'Conan' Photos

The pictures we've seen of "Conan" so far seem to prove beyond a doubt that the reboot starring Jason Momoa has the potential for greatness, and that Momoa definitely has the look to step into Arnold Schwarzenegger's sandals as the epic barbarian. New images that have hit the net courtesy of Bleeding Cool give us [...]

Tom Cruise in Top GunIf you suddenly, inexplicably feel the need for speed, the urge to belt out "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" in a bar... or the strange inkling to play beach volleyball in jeans, there's a reason: Paramount Pictures officially wants to reunite Tom Cruise, director Tony Scott and producer Jerry Bruckheimer for "Top Gun 2."

Vulture has learned that Paramount has already extended offers to Scott and Bruckheimer to start turning and burning on a sequel to the 1986 classic, and the studio has Oscar-winning screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie ("The Usual Suspects") in its sights to pen the script. Cruise, meanwhile, is said to have agreed to return as hotshot naval aviator Maverick in a small role, provide it's not too "obvious" -- e.g. Mav playing a version of Tom Skerrit's battle-hardened instructor from the original.

If that news takes your breath away (yes, we went there), you might want to sit down. Not only does Paramount want a "Top Gun" sequel; they're thinking franchise. This all sounds great, but just how feasible is it that this puppy will get off the tarmac?

Actually, pretty feasible. At a junket for "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" this summer, Bruckheimer confirmed that he'd been "recently approached again to start talking about [a sequel]." His biggest hangup: "The aviation community has completely changed since we made the movie a long time ago." The change Jer-Jer was referring to is that pilots these days aren't so much trained in the graceful art of dog-fighting as they are in the explosive practice of bomb-dropping.

But a source close to the project tells Vulture that McQuarrie has found a way around this potential deal-breaker, as well as a way to incorporate Maverick into the story that doesn't suck. The fact that McQuarrie is pals with Cruise and that he's got a hot hand in Hollywood right now -- his script for "Wolverine 2" is rumored to kick adamantium ass -- could mean that "Top Gun 2" gets cleared for a big-screen flyby very soon. Sounds like it's time to buzz the tower.

Is a "Top Gun" sequel a good idea? What would be a good story, and how does Maverick fit in? Tell us in the comments!

USAC racer Shane Hmiel is in critical condition after crashing his United States Auto Club Silver Crown car at the Terre Haute Action Track last night. Read more and watch the crash video below.

Shane Hmiel 1

Warning: the video you are about to watch is gruesome, and isn’t for the faint of heart – viewer discretion is advised.

As you can see in the video Shane Hmiel was cruising around the track when something went terribly wrong. His car “bicycled” onto two wheels, and as a result he lost control slaming into the outside wall of the track, before it flipped over several times. The roll cage wasn’t strong enough to withstand the force of the impact and was crushed.

Medical choppers arrived shortly after the wreck, and airlifted Hmiel to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. According to the website Bitten and Bound, he is suffering from severe compression fractures in his neck and back as well as serious head injuries.

Shanes father, Steve, gave an update to FoxSports.com about his son’s condition. He said:

“Head looks promising, heavily sedated so hard to tell about waking up. No feeling in his legs but might get better.”

As a biography, Shane Hmiel (often misspelled, Hmeil) was born on May 15, 1980 in Pleasant Garden, North Carolina. His father is Steve Hmiel is a former NASCAR crew chief and the current Competition Director for Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing. At one point in his career he was a NASCAR racer, but after failing several drug tests he was banned from the organization for life. He is the co-host of the racing-themed TV show “3 Wide Life.” He was involved in a horrific crash on October 9, 2010.

My thoughts go out to Shane’s fans, friends and family.

It’s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas! Holiday albums will start to come out and Mariah Carey announces Christmas music will be released by her as well this year. Her ’94 CD was a hit, so the bar is set high. To get more details, with photos and videos of her songs, keep reading below.

Mariah Carey 1

This past weekend, while she celebrated her husband Nick Cannon’s 30th birthday, the song list was released. “Oh Santa” may be the new hit, and is available as a digital single today (Oct. 12th). Will this be the new song we get stuck in our head this season?

Her last album with the hit “All I Want for Christmas is You” became an instant classic. In August Mariah Carey announced Christmas music plans, including what would be the single. The finished product will be on sale November 2nd and I can imagine it will fly off the shelves.

She is going to do a new version of her old holiday favorite, and of course there is the new single. Other tunes we can celebrate with include “The First Noel” and “O Come All Ye Faithful.” You can check out a photo of the cover here, with more details on the CD as well.

Other than working on this project, the music star has been in the news with pregnancy rumors surrounding her. All we keep hearing is that the couple wants to be parents, but they will not confirm or deny the story. Maybe they have more to celebrate this season? We will have to wait and see.

As for her music, I will definitely be checking this one out as her other holiday song is still my favorite to hear every year. I couldn’t picture Christmas without it. Am I the only one excited that Mariah Carey announces Christmas album plans? Or will you be snatching up a copy? Also do you think it will be a hit like the other one, or is it too late? Leave me your comments after you check out these pictures and video.

harry potter coming to 3d blu ray soon

The only thing better than seeing DanRad in crystal-clear perfect quality is to see him flying around your living room during a 3D game of quidditch!

Warner Bros is currently working on bringing the Harry Potter series to 3D blu-ray, starting with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

They've begun work on the Half-Blood Prince conversion to 3D, and we're glad to hear that they intend on doing it right, instead of rushing through the process, like they did with the infamous 3-Disaster Clash of the Titans.

No word yet on specific time frames for when these 3D conversions will be released, especially for earlier Harry Potter titles, but we're glad to hear they're on their way.

Should be inneresting to see if they decide to re-release the 3D Harry Potter films in theaters, like what Fox is doing with the Star Wars series.

Are U excited for 3D Harry Potter to make its way into your home?

Today is a sad day for the fans, friends, and family of soul singer Solomon Burke, as he died earlier today (October 10, 2010) at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport. Although the “Cry to Me” singer is dead, his music will live on forever. Read more about the life and death of soul legend Solomon Burke below.

Solomon Burke

Rolling Stone is reporting that Burke aka ‘The King of Rock and Soul’ aka ‘Big Soul’ passed away this morning at an airport in Amsterdam. He was 70-years-old.

Let’s take a quick glimpse into the life and death of this tremendous man.

As a biography, Solomon Burke was born on March 21, 1940 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In early adulthood he was a preacher in Philly, and also he was an acquaintance of Martin Luther King, Jr. His ear pleasing voice quickly landed him a spot hosting a gospel radio show. In 2001, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and other inductees – Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, and Otis Redding, have covered his songs. Finally after a long and illustrious career as an entertainer he was awarded with a Grammy in 2003. Atlantic Records exec Jerry Wexler considered him Soul’s greatest singer. He dedicated a good portion of his adult life to being the spiritual leader at the Los Angeles’ nonsectarian Church of God for All People. At the time of his death he was confined to a wheelchair, and weighed in at a vast 420 pounds – give or take a few. Sources report that he left behind – 21 children, 90 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Burke is quoted as saying:

“I’m still amazed people remembered and didn’t give up on me.”

With all of his accomplishments he has left behind a legacy that will not be soon forgotten.

Here you will find even more on this story including photos and videos.

We offer you our comment section to leave your condolences.

Find pictures of Solomon Burke (click on pics to enlarge) and a high quality video of “Don’t Give Up On Me” below.

'Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1' Won't Get the 3-D Treatment After All

Harry, Ron and Hermione may find some of those elusive Horcruxes in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1," but there is one thing they won't find, no matter how hard they look: a third dimension. And neither will the audience.

If you ever entertained thoughts that it might be Naomi Watts -- and not Viggo Mortensen -- engaging in a nude spa fight in "Eastern Promises 2," you probably want to go ahead and manage those expectations. "Eastern Promises" director David Cronenberg revealed last March that a sequel to his 2007 crime thriller is indeed in the works, but sadly Ms. Watts will not be reprising her role as Anna, the London midwife whose discovery of an implicating diary put her in the cross hairs of the Russian mob.

We heard as much from Watts herself when we caught up with the actress to chat about her upcoming Valerie Plame film "Fair Game." "I don't think I'm in it," Watts laughed when asked if she'd read the "Eastern Promises 2" script. "Nobody called, so I guess they recast or maybe created a new role for a more attractive, younger girl."

What's more likely is that Watts' character simply didn't jibe with the story Cronenberg and writer Steven Knight hatched. What we do know is that Mortensen is definitely all in for the sequel, and the movie will likely use the original film's final revelation -- that his Viggo's gangster Nikolai was actually a Federal Security Service agent working with the British government -- as a jumping-off point. No word yet on a spa-fight reprisal. Sorry, ladies.

Will you still see "Eastern Promises 2" if Watts isn't in it? Tell us in the comments!

Along with the DMV, Toni alleges she owes money to several other creditors, including AT&T, The Four Seasons, Neiman Marcus, Tiffany & Co. and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Christian Rock Wedding Songs - How to Find a Good One

How many times have you seen books, articles, even seminars on how to write a good song - which, in itself isn't a bad thing - but as one songwriter aptly remarked, "okay, I've written the song - now what?" Getting a half decent answer to that question has, in my experience, been responsible for more songwriters failing in this industry, than for any other reason. So, what is a songwriter to do once a song is written?

You Can Do It! (Okay, Maybe Not)

The world's worst band is playing at a neighborhood fest/farmer's market one block from my apartment, but they're so loud that it sounds like they're playing right outside my window. I just ventured out so I could see what they look like and take a picture to show you, but as it turns out they're a group of down-on-their-luck teenagers playing plastic buckets and ginormous metal bazookas (which looks like trombones but aren't), so I felt bad and didn't do so.

But you know, this leads me to something. You want to encourage these kids and be like, "Keep playing your music! You can do it!" But at what point do you tell them they're awful? I mean, the neighborhood is suffering because of the noise. I have my TV turned up all the way to drown them out.

It reminds me of when I played the flute in the fourth grade school band. I thought we were amazing but then we had a concert. Afterward, when I asked my step-dad how we were, he laughed and said, "You sounded like the Charlie Brown school band." I was eight or nine years old at the time, but I was old enough to be told I sucked. I remember not caring. These kids are teenagers... I think it's time someone encouraged them to find another career path because this jam-band thing isn't working out.

(Btw, I couldn't find a clip of the Peanuts gang school band to show you, but you know what I'm talking about, right? They were horrible.)
